1. Who we are
DuetStudio is a studio management platform for private music teachers, operated by DuetStudio ("we", "us", "our"). If you have questions about this policy, contact us at support@duetstudio.io.
2. What we collect
From teachers (account holders):
- Name, email address, and phone number (provided during signup)
- Studio name and instruments taught
- Lesson rates and billing preferences
- Lesson notes (both shared and private)
- Any other information you choose to enter
From students (entered by teachers):
- Student name, email address, and phone number
- Parent/guardian name, email, phone number, and relationship
- Secondary guardian contact information (if provided)
- Instrument, lesson history, practice assignments, and practice logs
- Whether the student is a minor or adult
Automatically collected:
- Authentication data (login sessions, timestamps)
- Basic usage data necessary to operate the service (e.g., when records are created or updated)
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or marketing cookies.
3. How we use your data
We use the data we collect to: provide and operate the DuetStudio platform, send transactional emails (invoices, lesson reminders, assignment notifications), improve the service, and respond to support requests. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to anyone.
4. Who can see your data
- Teacher data is visible only to the teacher and to DuetStudio platform administrators for support purposes.
- Student data is visible only to the teacher who manages that student and to the student themselves (via the student portal, if enabled).
- Lesson notes marked as "shared" are visible to the student. Notes marked as "private" are visible only to the teacher.
- Parent/guardian contact information is used by the teacher for invoicing and communication. It is not shared with other users.
5. Third-party services
We use the following services to operate DuetStudio:
- Supabase — database hosting and authentication (your data is stored here)
- Vercel — application hosting
- Resend — transactional email delivery (invoices, reminders, notifications)
- Stripe — payment processing (if/when payment features are enabled)
These services process data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy policies. We do not share your data with any other third parties.
6. Data about minors
DuetStudio is used by music teachers who teach students of all ages, including minors. Student accounts for minors are created and managed by the teacher, not by the minor directly. We rely on the teacher to obtain appropriate consent from parents or guardians before entering student information into the platform. Parent and guardian contact information is collected to support communication between the teacher and the student's family.
7. Data retention and deletion
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data (your profile, students, lessons, invoices, and assignments) is permanently deleted. Students can request that their teacher remove their data. Teachers can delete individual student records at any time.
8. Data security
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), secure authentication via Supabase Auth, row-level security policies that restrict data access to authorized users, and environment-separated API keys. No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the data entrusted to us.
9. Your rights
You have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, request deletion of your data, and export your data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@duetstudio.io.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email. The "last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
