Makeup lessons (Pro)

On Pro, a cancelled lesson can earn the student a makeup. You set the rule once: how many makeups a student gets, when that number starts again, how much notice a cancel needs, and what a late cancel suggests. Every time you cancel a single lesson, DuetStudio suggests what should happen and you choose. You can also open makeup times, and families book one themselves from the portal or from the link in their email.

Steps

1. Open Settings, then Students and portal, and turn on Makeup lessons. Choose Edit policy to set Makeups per student, They start again, Notice needed and Late cancels, then Save policy.
2. When you cancel a lesson, What happens to this lesson offers Give a makeup, Charge for it, no makeup and Don't charge, no makeup. The policy's choice is marked Suggested, and you can pick another.
3. To open times families can book, open Lessons, then Makeup Times, and choose Open makeup times. Pick the date, a window with From and To, and the Lesson length. Times that clash with a lesson or your time off are left out, and DuetStudio says why.
4. A family with a makeup sees Book a makeup in their portal, and in the email that tells them they have one. They pick one of their own teacher's open times, and the makeup lesson is added to the calendar.
5. To give a makeup or book one yourself, open the student and use the Makeups card: Give a makeup or Book a makeup.

Good to know

• A lesson cancelled with a makeup, or with a charge, stays on the bill. The makeup lesson itself is never billed. A lesson cancelled with no charge comes off the bill, the same as before.
• Open makeup times show dashed on the Calendar, and the dashboard lists students with Makeups to book.
• To cancel a booked makeup, choose Cancel makeup. The student gets the makeup back and the time opens again.
• Makeups can expire if you turn on Makeups expire. It is off unless you choose it.
• Change how many makeups one student gets on their Makeups card.
