How families work
Every student has a main contact: the parent or guardian for a child, or the student themselves for an adult. Students whose main contact has the same email are one family, and the emails that can go together do: announcements, time off notices, lesson reminders, class recaps and invoices sent at the same time each go out as one email per family. Emails about one thing for one student, like a lesson recap or an assignment, stay one each.
Steps
- Open a student. The Family card shows the Main contact who gets every email about them, and Also in this family lists the brothers and sisters.
- To put two children in one family, give them the same main contact email. When you add a student, DuetStudio says when an email already belongs to a family and offers Use their details.
- To add the other parent, open Edit on the Family card and choose Add a second guardian. Turn on Send them copies of family emails if they should get their own copy.
- Find students nobody can email on Students with the Can't be emailed filter.
Good to know
- A second guardian's copy is a separate email, never a copy line, so neither parent sees the other's address. It has its own link to stop copies, which never stops the main contact's emails.
- When a family stops announcements or lesson reminders, it stops them for every child in the family.
- A young student's portal invite goes to the main contact when the student has no email of their own, and one sign-in covers every child at that address. A child never sees money in the portal.
